Georges St-Pierre: I’m happy, I gave everything I had – UFC News
Welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre was able to defeat interim champion Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in Montreal, Canada. However, ‘The Rush’ did admit the fact that he was close to losing, only if the left head kick by Condit had struck him harder.
On the other hand, Condit was disappointed in himself, believing that he could have done better. However, he admitted the fact that he gave everything against GSP in the cage.
“Obviously that’s not where I wanted to be, I didn’t want to be under Georges taking elbows,” said Condit, who spent most of the time bleeding and trying to evade GSP’s grappling.
While Condit was grieving the loss, GSP was celebrating his victory. ‘The Rush’ asserted that he gave everything in the cage to make sure he stands victorious.
“I’m happy, I gave everything I had. I left everything I had in the Octagon,” said GSP during the post fight conference.
GSP’s striking coach Phil Nurse revealed that their strategy against Condit was to soften him up and then attack.
“I thought I had him there,” said Condit of the kick he had delivered to St-Pierre during the third round.
“Georges showed again why he’s the champion,” said Nurse of the same instance when GSP was kicked in the head. “He came back, got out of that situation and turned it around and took back charge of the fight.”
However, it should be noted here that even though GSP recovered from Condit’s kick, he showed his weak point. He dropped his guard to the extent where any hard hitter could have him. If he goes against middleweight champion Anderson Silva and repeats the
same mistake, the ‘Spider’ would definitely have him.
For now, GSP is the bigger man against Condit. When asked about the possibility of facing Anderson Silva, GSP revealed he has not thought about it. According to ‘The Rush’, he will discuss it with his team members and decide whether he wants to go for the
fight or not.
Defeating Condit has paved the way for Georges St-Pierre to be an even bigger legend under the Ultimate Fighting Championship banner.
