Georges St-Pierre believes knee injury was a positive thing to have happened – UFC News
UFC welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre now has a different approach altogether regarding his knee injury that kept him away from the octagon for almost eighteen months. GSP will be making his return against interim champion Carlos Condit on November
17 at UFC 154.
GSP’s injury was recurring, it came back when he tried training his guts out for a super-fight. It was a rough patch of his career, which he believes is now over.
“This injury was a negative thing in the beginning but it became a positive thing at the end because it allowed me to correct my training and make it better and improve it,” said GSP in an interview with The Calgary Herald.
“I had the mentality that more is better, but I realize that's wrong. Smarter is always better. I have more fun doing it. I'm more fired up to go train now,” he added.
The injury first occurred when GSP was training for a fight against Carlos Condit at UFC 137. It was bad enough to make him go through a surgical procedure. It came back and forth and the ‘Rush’ was unable to defend his title for eighteen. During this tenure,
Carlos Condit went onto face Nick Diaz at UFC 143 to win the interim welterweight title.
“My knee feels like it never happened ... It's very strong,” GSP added.
Now, GSP is looking for a complete career rejuvenation. He not only wants to grab the number one spot once again but he also wants to be a more exciting fighter. Considering his previous fighting style, GSP knows fans take him as a ‘boring fighter’ as he
mainly depends on point scoring instead of knockouts. He wants to change his nickname from ‘Rush’ to ‘Silver Lining’ and wants to be a hard-hitter instead of a points scorer.
For now, GSP believes it is time for him to claim back what is his and that is the welterweight title. A win against Carlos Condit would set him back on the track. He might face middleweight champion Anderson Silva in due time if he is able to score a dominating
win over Condit.
