Georges St-Pierre defeats Carlos Condit at UFC 154 – UFC News
Finally, welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre was able to make a remarkable comeback by defeating interim champion Carlos Condit at UFC 154, past Saturday. GSP made his cage return after 18 months, and he did not fall short on expectations. The French-Canadian
fighter electrified the arena with his charisma and his outstanding fighting skills, proving that he still is the number one pound for pound fighter in the division.
“People talk about ring rust,” St. Pierre said after the fight. “I definitely know what it is. Carlos Condit definitely gave me my toughest fight.”
Even though St-Pierre was dominating Condit for the entire fight, there were still moments were Condit ruled GSP. Throughout the fight, GSP’s grappling skills were most prominent, as they helped him keep his opponent on the mat.
St-Pierre, as promised, also delivered a couple of hard blows in pursuit of knocking out Condit but he was not strong enough. Surely, GSP was able to open a nasty cut above Condit’s right eye in the first and then hit on the same to make it even worse during
the second. Yet, Condit was not intimidated with the welterweight titlist’s attack.
During the third round, Condit tried making a comeback by dropping St-Pierre with a left head kick. This was Condit’s only moment of joy in the fight that ended soon as GSP got to his feet sooner than Condit could imagine.
St-Pierre won the show via unanimous decision, with the scores being 49-46, 50-45 and 50-45.
Also present in the arena was middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who was supposedly up to challenge Georges St-Pierre. However, as Silva had indicated earlier, he did not challenge GSP for a fight, as Dana White had predicted.
When asked regarding a fight against Anderson Silva, GSP said, “I know Anderson Silva is here right now. I was focusing on Carlos Condit. I want to take some time for myself.
“I want to talk to my manager and my team and decide what is best for me.”
On the other hand, Carlos Condit was disappointed in himself, as he believed he could have fought GSP better only if he had not spent too much time on the mat.
“I'm still disappointed. His top game was very, very good. He was able to hold me down.”
