Georges St-Pierre learned from his mistakes against Matt Serra – UFC News
UFC welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre was near to being knocked out when Carlos Condit delivered a hard left head kick at UFC 154 in Montreal. ‘The Rush’ immediately hit the mat and was then overtaken by Condit for some time. However, St-Pierre successfully
recovered from the kick and grappled Condit back on the mat.
After the fight, Condit admitted that he thought he had GSP after the kick but the French-Canadian fighter made a strong comeback to score the victory.
During the post fight conference, GSP revealed that he learned enough from his knockout loss against Matt Serra to avoid another knockout.
“Yes it was a similar experience [to the Serra fight],” said ‘The Rush’. “When I got hit hard, sometimes before I was very proud guy, I try to give it back right away but the experience I gained from a lot of all my fight allowed me to recompose, defend
myself and when I got back I come back stronger.”
Georges St-Pierre defeated Condit via unanimous decision and is now a step closer to a super-fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. According to GSP, his fight against Condit was the toughest of his career, and that he had enough rust to take
out. Now, GSP believes he is back in action and he will be better than ever before.
“It's that experience that allowed me to survive, you know, and come back from that kick that I got hit with,” said GSP.
GSP spent most of the time keeping Condit on the mat. In the very first round, Condit suffered a deep cut over his left which was further bruised by GSP in the second round. The ring was red with Condit’s blood but the then interim champion fought well,
giving up everything he had to GSP.
For now, GSP is satisfied with his comeback and so are his fans. President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is already looking talking about the super-fight between GSP and Silva.
If the fight happens, it will be the grandest UFC fight ever, even though most analysts are already giving Silva the upper hand.
