Georges St-Pierre medically cleared for UFC 154 – UFC News
Georges St-Pierre suffered a torn ACL in April 2011, and since then he has been out of sight. However, now, the UFC welterweight champion has got medical clearance to resume his fighting career.
As of now, St. Pierre is scheduled to face 170-pound interim champion Carlos Condit at UFC 154, which takes place on November 17 in Montreal.
On the other hand, St. Pierre is also being eyed by middleweight champion Anderson Silva as his next opponent. Although Silva has asserted that he will not be fighting until 2013, the champion is of the view that St. Pierre is a solid opponent for him and
so he is willing to fight him.
“I'm now medically cleared to compete in mixed martial arts events,” revealed St. Pierre through his Twitter account on Tuesday.
St. Pierre currently stands with 22 wins and 2 losses in UFC. He first suffered the injury in December while preparing for his title defence against Nick Diaz. The match was supposed to be held on February 4 at UFC 143. However, since St. Pierre was unable
to fight anymore, Carlos Condit was brought into the scene as the former’s replacement. It was the opportune moment for Condit, who won the fight via unanimous decision over Diaz.
Carlos currently stands with 28 wins and 5 losses in the sport. St. Pierre’s last fight took place on April 13 in 2011 at UFC 129. He successfully defeated middleweight champion Jake Shields via unanimous decision to win the title.
Since St. Pierre is among the most experienced UFC fighters today, Anderson Silva believes he is the only one who can give him a tough time in the cage. Silva, who recently defeated Chael Sonnen via second round knockout, believes he is out of options.
Although young fighters like Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann are willing to take on Silva, the champion believes they are too young to go head to head with him. For now, Silva is hopeful that his next fight will be against St. Pierre.
On the other hand, St. Pierre is excited to raise h**l in the cage once again.
