Georges St-Pierre rates Frankie Edgar as the best UFC fighter – UFC News
While middleweight champion Anderson Silva is considered to be the best fighter by the majority, a few fellow fighters disagree with the notion. And, among the naysayers is returning welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. GSP, who himself is rated among
the best, rates Silva as the third best fighter in the UFC fight now. Surprisingly, GSP rated Jones above Silva and Frankie Edgar as the number one fighter in the show.
During an interview with Los Angeles Times, GSP claimed that he no longer fits in the top three categories, as he once did. He humbly asserted that he needs to make a solid return against Carlos Condit to grab his number one spot once again.
When asked who is the best fighter overall, GSP stated, “No. 1 is Frankie Edgar; he's the best pound-for-pound fighter we have.”
“Wait, he's not even a champion,” asserted the interviewer. “He lost his fight to Benson Henderson only according to the judges. He was much stronger than Henderson,” added GSP.
When asked to rate other fighters in the number 2 and number 3 slot, GSP came up saying, “Jon Jones is No. 2, Anderson Silva's No. 3.”
“You're out?
“I haven't fought in a long time. I'm out of it. After Carlos Condit, maybe I'll be back.”
It surely took some courage for a fighter like GSP to not rank himself among the best, and to rate Jon Jones higher than Anderson Silva. Recently, Silva defeated American fighter Stephan Bonnar via first round knockout. He was hailed around the globe by
his fans and analysts, calling him the best mixed martial artist to ever live.
For some reason, GSP is not yet convinced with Silva’s skills. One reason might be the fact that GSP likes hard hitting fighters, which clearly Silva is not. Jones and Edgar are much more fierce than Silva, while the latter is a smarter fighter.
GSP is now scheduled to make his comeback after almost 18 months of temporary retirement due to recurring injuries. The American fighter will be making his comeback against interim champion Carlos Condit. If he wins, GSP will score a fight against middleweight
champion Anderson Silva.
