Georges St-Pierre rates Frankie Edgar better than him – UFC News
While most UFC fans and enthusiasts believe middleweight champion Anderson Silva is the best pound for pound mixed martial artist of all time, welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre dares to differ. In his recent interview with Sports Radio Interviews, GSP
claimed that Frankie Edgar is still the best mixed martial arts specialist for him, despite Edgar’s two consecutive losses.
“There’s many guys who have skills that are better than mine in different departments but mixed martial arts, that’s the beauty of it, you need to be well-rounded,” said GSP.
“In terms of pound-for-pound, the best pound-for-pound, I believe it’s Frankie Edgar. That’s what I believe. I truly believe he’s the best pound-for-pound. He was fighting in a weight class above his and he was the world champion. Even though he lost his
two last fights, I believe the judges made a mistake. I gave him these two fights. That’s my personal opinion,” he added.
Georges St-Pierre is scheduled to make his comeback against interim champion Carlos Condit this Saturday at UFC 154 in Montreal, Canada. It will be GSP’s first fight in almost eighteen months. A win would decide whether GSP would face middleweight champion
Anderson Silva in a super-fight next year.
It should be noted here that President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has already indicated towards the possibility of Georges St-Pierre facing middleweight champion Anderson Silva. However, ‘The Rush’ is not so keen for the fight, as he
has already asserted he is not looking beyond Condit for now.
Georges St-Pierre spoke about fighting Anderson Silva in his last interview, saying he would not be bothered by the Spider’s presence in the arena. Reports of Silva challenging GSP in the cage are already emerging but nothing is for sure yet. One thing we
all know for sure is that Silva is eager to take on GSP by hook or by crook.
For GSP, the fight against Condit is a must win, in order to secure his position in the welterweight division. After almost eighteen months, GSP needs to prove he is the same fighter he was back then.
