Georges St-Pierre talks about his days away from the UFC – UFC News
Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre surely is one of the best mma fighters to ever live. However, at certain point in time, even the best fear losing everything and GSP’s injury period was just that. GSP is scheduled to make his UFC comeback at UFC 154
against interim champion Carlos Condit.
“I was confident the best Georges St-Pierre was behind me. I was starting all over again,” said GSP on UFC Primetime. “I was getting beat up in the gym by guys not even near my level and I could see through their eyes, they were looking at me like, 'Man,
this guy is never going to come back the same.'”
GSP was away from the cage for nearly eighteen months due to his recurring knee injuries. According to him, he feared his career might be over but now he is confident he can make it big once again. In fact, the former ‘Rush’ and now ‘Silver Lining’ is hopeful
that he would be a better and more exciting fighter now.
“At one point I thought to myself, 'Maybe I'm not going to be able to come back. Because I don't want to come back and get a beating. If I come back it's because I'm ready for a title-shot.”
In an interview last week, GSP spoke of his knee surgery, saying that his knee now feels better than ever. He also spoke of his critics believing he is a ‘boring fighter’ as he wins most of his fights via decision. The welterweight titlist asserted that
he has changed his ways now and fans will now see him knocking out his opponents more than ever.
For now, GSP is hopeful of making a strong comeback against Condit to claim what rightfully belongs to him, that is the welterweight title. If GSP is able to defeat Condit, he will get a shot at middleweight champion Anderson Silva at catch weight.
A fight against Silva would be GSP’s biggest night of his live, as the middleweight champion stands as the most elite fighter of the organisation. For now, GSP is training hard to show Condit he is the better man in the cage.
