Georges St-Pierre wants to face better fighters – UFC News
Georges St-Pierre stands as one of the best welterweights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He has had a long reign as champion, during which he gained the respect of his fellow fighters. However, unfortunately, due to recurring injuries, GPS had to
stay out of the cage for eighteen long months. Now, he is back and he wants to face fiercer competition than what he had faced previously.
“It's a lot of fun. It's like there's a lot of new challenges and I'm very happy to be back. It's like a new thing; it's actually pretty cool. I feel a lot more motivation right now. It's exciting. Look for bigger and better challenges,” said GPS in an interview
with MMA Weekly.
“He can change, that's why he's so good. He can change the way he fights according to his opponent. That's why he's so good and I know that. I'm going to take that fight and fight the best I can, and give it all I can.”
Georges St-Pierre is currently being eyed by President of the UFC Dana White as middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s next opponent. Since both fighters are highly popular, White believes a clash between them would be UFC’s first ever super-fight.
Similarly, even Anderson Silva’s camp believes GPS is the only fighter who can give the middleweight champion a tough time in the ring. According to Silva’s camp, there is no fighter in the middleweight division worth fighting for Silva. Commenting on the
struggle of Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann to get a title shot at Silva, the middleweight champion’s camp revealed they are all ‘kids’ and they might not fall to Silva sooner than they think.
Silva last fought against ‘The American Gangster’ Chael Sonnen. The fight was being hyped as Silva toughest challenge but Sonnen fell to Silva in the second round, making the crowd boo him. It was a strange event that marked the end of Sonnen’s middleweight
era. He is now looking forward to go back to the light heavyweight division to face champion Jon Jones.
GPS is now scheduled to fight Carlos on November 17. If he wins, he will then move on to face Anderson Silva next year.
