Georgia Davies secures Women’s 100m backstroke gold – 2013 British International
Georgia Davies of Swansea University secured gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on opening one of the 2013 British International in Leeds, UK, on Friday, March 8.
The British swimmer showed no mercy to her opponents in the backstroke discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing end for gold medal. She showed no mercy to her opponents and surfaced on the finishing end for the title.
Davies faced tough contest from her former finisher in the playoff but managed to edge her out over the wall for gold medal with an effort of 1 minute and 00.45 seconds.
She was followed by Lauren Quigley of Hazel Grove, who was only 0.14 seconds slower from her former finisher and secured silver medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 00.59 seconds.
The second best finisher was traced by Jessica Fullalove of Co Manch Aquatics, who stayed full body length slower from her former finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 01.56 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Elizabeth Simmonds of Bath University, who stayed only 0.05 seconds behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 01.61 seconds.
Simmonds was traced by Sharon Van Rouwendaal of Netherlands, who was nearly half a body length behind and posted an effort of 1 minute and 02.17 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Ekaterina Avramova of Ealing, who was 0.18 seconds away from her former finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 02.35 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Kira Toussaint of Netherlands, who was 0.15 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 02.35 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Rachel Williams of bath University, who was 0.98 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.33 seconds.
In addition, Davies was extremely happy and the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
