Georgia Davies secures Women’s 50m back-stroke gold medal - British Gas ASA national Championships
Georgia Davies of Swansea Perf earned the title of the Women’s 50m back-stroke on the second day of the 2011 British Gas ASA National Championships, in Sheffield.
The Sheffield National Championships are intended to classify the national swimming team, which will take part at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, this July.
Davies won the title of the 50m event in an astonishing time of 27.96 seconds. She was 0.92 seconds ahead of the second finisher, Ekaterina Avramova of Ealing, who occupied the podium for the silver medal by clocking a marvellous time of 28.88 seconds. They
were followed by Bath University’s Jennifer Oldham, who stood on the podium for the bronze medal producing a noteworthy time of 29.52 seconds.
The gold medallist looked confident for the title from the beginning of the meet. She was the first swimmer to kick-off from the starting blocks and earned a slight margin over her fellow swimmers. She was joined by Avramova in the first-half of the one
lap swim, where both of them demonstrated their aggressive swims in an attempt to earn the gold medal of the event.
After the initial 25 metres, Davies sprinted her way to the finishing wall as the most dominant swimmer and claim the gold medal in a fabulous time of 27.96 seconds. Avramova and Oldham stayed considerably away from her and finished their swims in second
and third places.
Katy Sexton stayed 0.08 seconds away from Oldham and failed to win the bronze medal, by posting a time of 29.60 seconds. Katrina Alder and Phoebe Lenderyou appeared on the finishing wall as the fifth and sixth fastest swimmers, by touching the wall in a
time of 29.67 and 29.93 seconds, respectively.
The last two positions of the event were claimed by Victoria Rayson and Laura Huggon, who concluded their laps with timings of 30.28 and 30.46 seconds, respectively.
The arena enjoyed the extraordinary swims of their national swimmers, whereas, British Swimming will announce the names of the selected athletes after the completion of the championships on June 17.
