Georgia Hall among top three shortlisted candidates: BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year
Georgia Hall, a 16-year-old teenager who hails from Remedy Oak, England, is now the European number one golfer.
The teenager has been short listed for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award. The ceremony will take place in Britain later this month.
Last year, the award had gone to another young golfer named Lauren Taylor. Taylor is another highly talented golfer and a star in the making.
Lauren Taylor won the award due to her splendid performance in the British Open, which she eventually won and went on to become the youngest player in the history of the tournament to do so.
The BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award was given to the high profiles football star Wayne Rooney in 2002. Another British sports personality named Tom Daley won the award three times, winning his awards in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Hall had an excellent year on the fairways. She won the Critchley Salver at Sunningdale earlier this year. She added more trophies to her name when she won a tournament in Hampshire Rose as well as the Roehampton Gold Cup tournaments.
The teenager missed her chance to make it on the first string of the Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team but she was the first reserve of the team.
Hall also participated in the Ladies’ British Amateur Championship and reached the semi-final by playing an excellent game. She lost to Stephanie Meadow in the semi-final who was also the eventual champion of the tournament.
Hall is the British girls’ champion and one of the leading golfers of the region. She has made her mark on the international circuit by performing very well throughout the year.
The teenager is also the winner of the England golf girls’ order of merit which was sponsored by Lorrin Golf.
The 16-year-old has two Paralympians Jessica-Jane Applegate and Josef Craig who are in contention for the award. Applegate and Craig are swimmers and both of them won gold in the recent Paralympic games.
The criterion for the nomination is that the individual has to be aged 16 years or less as of 1st January 2012.
The panel that nominates and shortlists the individuals choose their top nominations and then pen down their choice of individual for the award.
The announcement of the top three individuals will be made within little time. The event is taking place at Excel in London. The BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be aired on Sunday, the 16th of December.
Hall is a star in the making. She has made history in the Roehampton Gold Cup by becoming the youngest player to win the tournament.
It is yet to be seen what the next season has in the bag for the teenager.
