Question

Does the driving portion occur only in the parking lot or on the actual road too?

Is there a knowledge part for a class d license?

and what's the kind of stuff they ask you before the road test (like, where's the emergency brake, windshield wipers, etc.)

and what do they check your car for in the safety inspection?

ok, when you get in the car, adjust the seat, then buckle your seatbelt, and adjust your mirrors. check the air conditioner, but leave the radio off, the instructor usually will walk around the car, and have you put your blinker on, then headlights, and hit the brakes so they ensure all lights are working. they will tell you when it's time to go, do not put the car in gear until they tell you "let's go" they'll tell you, where to go, and when to turn, they're checking to see how attentive you are to the road, signs, and traffic (make sure your cell phone's off). oh and before you take off for the test they're going to need proof of insurance on the car. keep your hand's on the wheel (unless its a stick shift) and your eyes on  the road, and mirrors.
