  1. The presidents of Georgia and Russia have agreed to a six-point plan to calm the conflict over Georgia's separatist territories, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said late Tuesday.

Nicolas Sarkozy, left, and Dmitry Medvedev outline the deal and the problems ahead.

The plan "cannot resolve the larger problems and issues," Sarkozy said. We need to work on those. But, obviously, it does underline and respect and guarantee Georgia's territorial integrity."

The agreement calls for an immediate cease-fire with Russian and Georgian forces withdrawing to the positions they held on August 6, before the outbreak of hostilities. It also allows displaced civilians to return home safely and opens Georgia to humanitarian aid workers.

  2. they are at war.

  3. Early in August 2008, Georgia in Europe invaded South Ossetia - a breakaway region of Georgia - and took hold of Tskhinvali, South Ossetia's capital city. Obligated to (seeing most of South Ossetians are said to have Russian passports), Russia intervened. Of course, as soon as Russia intervened, Russia, rather than instigator Georgia and its allies, is portrayed as aggressive.

The conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia have been going on for years. The problem is that Georgia and some (including US and UN) would not recognize South Ossetia's independence. Another breakaway region, Abkhazia, sought independence and accepted autonomy under Georgia's watchful eyes; but South Ossetia seeks complete independence. What I do not understand, however, is why Georgia is not concentrating on why its people are seceding!

There is no doubt that the control of Roki Tunnel/Roksky Tunnel is a major issue in this conflict (being the backbone for local income in South Ossetia and a major economic route in that part of the world). And what I find very interesting is that neither the US nor the UN said a thing after Georgia attacked South Ossetia until Russia got involved!

I think Russia was justified in its actions against Georgia on behalf of South Ossetia (regardless of its ulterior motive), seeing most South Ossetians are said to have Russian passports. It is possible that Russia may have prevented a genocide.

There is also another viewpoint alleging that the conflict in Georgia could also have been a ploy to hasten Georgia's acceptance into NATO. How?

Well, Georgia attacks South Ossetia it, Georgia, and UN would not recognize as independent, knowing fully well that Russia would be obligated to render support to South Ossetia. And when Russia intervened, Russia, not instigator Georgia and its allies, is portrayed as aggressive and NATO members are forced to hasten Georgia's membership into NATO. Please links below:

Besides, I am also of the opinion that our Georgian Mikhail Saakashvili, having studied in the US, is trying his hand on the same tactic employed by the US government against the Native Americans in their little prisons in the USA called "reservations"! I guess no one has told Mikhail Saakashvili that true Native Americans, like true Mexicans down south in the US, never gave up!

  4. well basically georgia invaded a peacefull country (that was formerly part of georgia but became independant ~18 years ago) and the russians saved the day, then went into georgia and took out there army so they ***** do it again, nice one russia

however the americans started shouting about it most likely because they didnt get a chance to save the day

btw this is the same thing we did to iraq after they attacked kuwait in the 1st gulf war

  5. I think russia wants to run Georgia and they want to be on their own and Russia won't let them so they are ruining life's again for their own madness.

  6. A segment of Georgia citizens tried to go to Russia and Russia went into Georgia to aid that segment of Georgia.

  7. Nothing it's all over everyone is happy.
