Was it a crime or was it a peacekeeping operation?

If you think it was peacekeeping operation, you have to allow S.Ossetia become free too, as Kosovo became.

All that we read about conflict in S.Ossetia before 08\08\08 does not matter, because 08\08\08 Georgia started the genocide which cannot be justified.

Where did you get that?

Georgia attempted to disarm separatists(armed & financed by Russians) on Georgian soil.

Russian citizens Official Moscow claims to be protecting there are ethnic Ossetins given Russian passports in violation of Russian and Georgian laws.

If you want to compare, when a war breaks out in a foreign country US, and European country as usual warns their citizens to leave that country and helps them to do so. Unlike Russia who went in guns blazing and not only occupied S.O. but half of Georgia as well. Which means is was planned by Russia bakc then when they were giving out Russian passports to foreign citizens.

As of the who killed who first. here's your timeline:

08.01.08 - Truck with 6 Georgian police officers is blown up by S.O. separatists. All 6 receive severe wounds.Georgian side doesn't take any measures to avoid escalation.

08.02.08 - At night S.O. separatists shell   6 Georgian villages with mortars and artillery.

During the same day 6 civilians and 1 policeman are wounded by small arms fire form S.O. side controlled by Russian "peacekeepers".

At first Georgian side opened return fire, however soon were ordered to stop to avoid escalation.

08.03.08 - 12:00 am S.O. evacuates 500 civilians to North Ossetia, including 400 children. Officially children are sent to summer camps there.

13:00am - S.O. declares mobilization of "voulnteers" in all north Caucasus.

08.04.08 - All day from the territories controlled by Russian peacekeepers S.O. separatists keep shooting at Georgian side.

08.05.08 - All day from the territories controlled by Russian peacekeepers S.O. separatists keep shooting at Georgian villages.

08.06.08 - 16:00pm. S.O. separatists refuse any negotiations and peace talks with Georgian side.

20:00pm S.O. separatists open mortar and small arms fire on5 Georgian villages. Georgian forces return fire, however they don't use heavy artillery.

09:00am. S.O. president Kokoiti announces that if Georgia doesn't withdraw its peacekeeping forces  S.O. will start military action against them. Let me remind you Georgian peacekeepers were there according to  the same treaty Russians were.

Considering that S.O. separatists had much smaller force it is interesting why would Kokoiti threaten much stronger enemy.. Obviously he was counting on Russian help as before. I.e. S.O. knew very well they could count on Russian help even if they attacked...

9:45am, same day Russian airplane bombs Georgian radar 30km outside of conflict zone. And we have to believe Russia had no plans on invading Georgia.. Yeah, right.

15:00pm. second time S.O. separatists refuse to have any peace talks with Georgia. Does show how much  they care for peace or the lives of civilians.

16:00pm - S.O. separatists start shelling 2 Georgian villages. Around the same time S.O. separatists attack Georgian APC, wounding 3 Georgian soldiers. However, 2 of the separatists are killed, 2 wounded.

Later the same day Georgian post on the road is bombarded and destroyed, several Georgian soldiers and civilians are killed.

18:30pm same day - Georgia declares unilateral ceasefire.

20:30pm - despite of Cease fire declared by Georgian side S.O. separatists completely destroy Georgian village Avnery by mortar fire.

21:00 S.O. threatens Georgian government to use cossaks and "volunteers" against Georgian peacekeepers in the area announcing that cossaks and other volunteers are already on their way. Given the tense situation this 100% looks like S.O. wanted this war.

22:30pm - S.O. separatists open heavy artillery and mortar fire on several Georgian villages. One village is attacked directly by S.O. paramilitaries.

After all that, 23:30 Georgia starts their attack to regain control and protect its civilians.

Given all that I think it's very clear S.O. ad Russia planned all this and did everything they could to provoke military action from Georgian side.

Especially considering the following events. Russian army which is as usual never ready for anything and has very slow response time was suspiciously quick to enter S.O. with overwhelmingly large forces.

Also very suspicious that Russians had conducted exercises in the Caucasus modeling exactly what happened couple weeks later - invading Georgia.

Giving Russian passports to ethnic Ossetins in conflict zone was a) violation of Russian law, b) clearly planing for the excuse to invade later.

So, please get your facts first before posting here Russian propaganda.

Nope.  They put down a revolution in their territory.

Example: The British supported the South during the Civil War.  The Battle of Atlanta was not an attack on Britain.  Right?

The first sovereign incursion was committed by Russia, not Georgia.
