Russia was not the one who invaded South Ossetia trying to annex it so I don't think they have aproblem of it being independent.

Plus,South Ossetia is an indeginous region and has been for centuries.People there are NOT of Georgian descent.

If breakaway republics cannot be independent then how do you explain Kosovo conflict in 1999 where America helped the rebels?

  1. CNN isn't going to tell you this, but the whole thing is about oil.  It is about control of the Caspian Sea, the region in which the third largest oil reserves can be found.

Georgia has received lots of military aid, both training and weaponry, from both the U.S. and Israel, for the simple reason that it is strategically placed. It sure as heck ain't for the sake of "spreading democracy".

  2. Because no one recognizes South Oseetia as an independant nation accept for South Ossetians, Russia wouldnt have them be an independant nation either, because both territories (georgia and S. ossetia) were part of the former soviet union. Thats like me being from california and saying. Hey, We're from california and from now on, we're our own country and not part of the US.  Its just not gonna work.
