Question:

Georgia vs. Russia Should the U.S. intervene?

For those of you that do not know, Georgia is a small country on the southern border of russia and was a part of the former soviet union.

The president of Georgia supports Western beliefs in democracy and is a strong believer in what America and Western European countries have taught them.

There is a small section of Russia that has annexed itself from Georgia and associated with Russia. It is unclear as of yet who started the fighting but most believe Russia provoked Georgia with artillery and now a full scale battles and jet bombings are happening all across Georgia. This what happened in 1979 when Russia attacked Afghanistan (before Al Queda took over). Reagan helped the afghans fight back the Russians because the afghans were trying to install a democratic government and trying to implement Democratic beliefs.

Should we assist this country in its defense against Russia? This would not be like an Iraq or Iran situation where we send troops. At most, we would send peace keepers. But shouldn't we help this Western loving country?

I dont like Bush, but I hope he moves in soon. This fight could be short and quick. Look at the timing, Russia wait until not only the Olympics to attack, but also when America is Re-electing presidents, and many politicians are on vacation. Russia wants a quick war and before we have time to act, it might be over.

What do you all think?

  1. This is a European problem, let them handle it for once. Not our concern.

Bolshevik RE: "Decline" really, how do you explain the US victory in Iraq?

Saddam is gone, Iraq is a democracy, the people are better off, US is stronger in the region than before, troops will pull out soon. The only quagmire there is Iraq's governments problem. Not Ours. You are just a bitter commi. The weakest form of government. lol

Derrick RE: You are so shortsighted my friend. Your blatant hate of the US blinds you. When the American colonist got rid of the British, would you not consider that victory?? Well from the period of the formation of the new government, the gov't was weak. Until the constitutional convention of 1787 and the ratification of the US constitution, replacing the Articles of Confederation, there was mass ineffectiveness. You have a weak mindset. The Iraqi gov't now has the capabilities to create a strong democratic state. The reason you are against success is because of the reasons the US went there in the first place. Just swallow your pride and admit it.

  2. of course NOT, that is their business!   We have our own Empire to administer!!!

  3. I saw on the news that Bush has already sent an envoy of soldiers over to Georgia already.

  4. let Europe intervene

we don't want this to turn into WWIII

  5. I would support sending troops to georgia. I am currently awaiting who gets into office in november because I want to join the military myself. If Obama becomes president I wildefinitelyly not join because that would just be suicidal he has no experience.

  6. I do not know how much you are informed in occasion of this situation but I know that from various sources say lies to you and try to incite you against Russia. Yesterday Georgia has begun attack of South Ossetia though itself earlier spoke about reconciliation. In current of yesterday Georgia has subjected all South Ossetia to continuous bombardments from howitzers, rocket complexes "Hailstones", etc. then in the city of Tshenvali which is capital of South Ossetia the Georgian tanks and in already today's morning the Georgian bombers dot blows on cities of South Ossetia have entered striked. The Russian peacemakers have received impact in a back hundred parties of Georgia, on the Russian arrangements where there are peacemakers fire from artillery and tanks has been opened. There is a lot of lost among the peace population and Russian a soldier. Georgia in the impudent image wages war, and not only on fields of battles but in mass media. The Georgian president tries to misinform in every possible way the world having told that Russia the aggressor which has attacked Georgia but it was not and will not occur. Today also the Georgian president has declared the general demobilization by means of which has collected militarians in a reserve (students, etc.) Also has sent them on front and to which most part this war is not necessary. The Georgian militarians having grasped some villages of South Ossetia finished wounded men of Russian the soldier and which most part Russian also the Georgian militarians in a pointed manner showed peace inhabitants to reporters as they shoot on the Russian positions with peacemakers and those do not answer as if they will answer with counter fire that greater war will begin. It is a genocide in the present kind and Russia within day tried to reach all world while all proceeded it and suffered but today the Russian tanks and were put forward to South Ossetia to stop bloodshed and to stop this war and the Russian planes did not bomb Georgia as the Georgian president speaks, it is a deceit by means of which Georgia tries to expose Russia guilty and to set all world against Russia.

If you will have questions and I as far as possible shall answer them.

  7. no...let them have afghanistan number 2.

  8. I dont feel we should intervene. Right now we have too many things on our plate i.e Iraq and afghanistan. With both these on our agenda i feel getting involved with another country's problems would not be in our best interest. I feel we can tell both sides to try and work out their problems but if we sent troops out there russia would be intimidated and feel we were about to strike.

  9. its not our fault they arent strong enough to hold their own....

  10. This is going to be funny. Everyone who 'hates' us in Europe, will want us to jump in do something. I say let THEM intervene before we send in any troops. We need to resolve this diplomatic first. Georgia might be able to hold off their former ountrymen for a while anyway. Chechyna did it.

So let's not rush into European business...again.

And I got nothing against the Russians (worked with them in Bosnia) or Georgians either. But I would rather fix Dafur first...

Hate Bush this or that and then they elect conservatives all over Europe....yeah right. That's all I heard last year in Germany. I bet if Russia invaded Germany or Poland again, now would say that again. They would holla, "where are your strong leaders, not you appeasers."

Anyway, if you feel so strongly, go over there and enlist or provide medical help.

  11. No. The U.S should try to continue ties with Georgia and Russia that way it will establish itself as a neutral country in this situation. As for the invasion...let it play out...things happen the way they're supposed to.

NOTE: When Russia invaded Afghanistan at the time it was known as the Soviet Union and was an enemy of the U.S. However now in the current age we have relations with Russia the U.S doesn't want to undermine by supporting Georgia.

  12. Well, until this post I would have been for supporting you, but since you want to join the bash the president band wagon, let the Russians do with you as they will. If you think Obama would ever do anything to help you, you are sadly mistaken. He is a communist.

  13. First off, Georgia is the aggressor here. They invaded South Ossetia, which has strong ties to Moscow. Once Georgia invaded South Ossetia Moscow responded by sending tanks for South Ossetia's defense.

Despite what you say, relatively few things in Georgia are actually democratic.

Edit: The following quote is just horrendously inaccurate: "Bolshevik RE: "Decline" really, how do you explain the US victory in Iraq?"

Victory? Really? That's crazy because last time I checked parliament doesn't function properly, and soldiers are still dying. The fact that you used the word victory shows how very VERY little you know about Iraq.

  14. No, but this is another reason why another Kerry (osama) should not get elected.  These liberals have absolutely NO CLUE how to run a country in constant conflict.  ie blackhawk down... remember that fiasco, where Clintoon removed a battalion of Marines and left a security contingent behind to perform forward operations?  That's what we are looking at if osama gets into office.  There should be a caution sticker mounted between his big *** ears so that people know what they are getting into with him!

  15. I don't think there's anything we can do about it.

  16. USA is not the world cop anymore, its decline is obvious and irreversible.

Victory? Its a quagmire,USA can only try to save the face.

This is a bad time for "nation building",a world recession is going on.

This world crisis is unstoppable.Didn't you notice that Oil and Soy bean price plummeted 30 % in a month ?It was another speculative bubble.

And some ignorants said it was because Chinese and Hindu peoples were eating more...

We , Bolsheviks, love all this mess,as you can understand we love crisis.

  17. Russia is a terrible aggressor. They do everything to destroy Georgia and punish them for their pro-western course. This is all to stop it from joining NATO because they believe Georgia and other ex-ussr countries still "belong" to them. This is all happening in XXI century. That is what European appeasement brings.
