Georgian war. America and Russia are heading for a conflict. Looking at Sky news tonight it is worrying. ?

Russia are still a threat to Georgia and Bush has warned Putin tonight to back down. If Russia does not back down then there is only one outcome. The problem is America is aiding Poland in its Missile defence and Russia does not like this. This is only making them more likely to attack Georgia in order to provoke America. Lads I tell you this could get very nasty for the World if this does not end soon. I do not like what im hearing on the news tonight.. What are your views on this please. No insults if you please...

As you rightly point out - USA is pushing Russia into a corner. Putting US missiles in Poland is threatening to Russia.

Turn the tables, imagine if Canada joined the Warsaw Pact, and Russia placed it's missiles along Canada. How would USA respond. Actually we know how. The same thing happened in Cuba when they accepted Russian missiles - USA became very hostile. We nearly had anuclear because USA was so jittery. They didn't like it - so it comes as no surprise the Russians dont like it either.

The result of this pressure from the US will result in Russia again placing missiles in Cuba - and they'll have themselves to blame. So to all the Americans who are happy with their countries missile placement strategy - will you be happy when you've got missiles pointing at your cities in Cuba.

The solution is for US to back off - they are on Russia's doorstep - and when you pressurise people like this - things will just escalate.

It won't happen.  There is no result from two superpowers going to war except total destruction of both.  Then what?  Politics is an ego driven  game.  If there is no one to play it with then what is the fun of that?  It will never escalate to the point of us taking on each other but there will be a lot of posturing for the sake of the game.

Georgia is still a threat to S.Ossetia thoguh the peace was reached couple of days ago and Bush did nothing for it.

Georgian crazy presiden attacked the peaceful civlian town with heavy artillery and anti-infantry(read anti-civilian) missiles and Russia was a peacekeeper there according to UN.

But now US is escalating the conflict providing Georgia with additional military and diplomatic support.

So the mad georgian president can decide to try genocide again.

Bush threatening Russia. You think Russians give a second thought to what Bush says, they've just made it clear. Bush literally has no influence over Russia or Europe. Just a lone wolf can bite but no teeth.

The picture is a lot more complex, it's not just about Georgia-Russia war. Like you've mentioned missile defense shield. US wants to increase its sphere of influence even over Russia. Russia in turn has made it clear that it will protect its interests. US simply wants among others Russia to bend at their will.

Which is impossible, US has no leverage against Russia and no influence. Hence the hysteric comments from Bush. A lot is going on behind the scenes, so don't know how it will be played.

One thing is certain US or Russia have no interest in direct confrontation, neither do Europeans. So it is highly unlikely. Just today defense Secretary Robert Gates ruled out any military intervention. Rather US and Bush are busy painting Russians as monsters . . . WAR MONGERS, INNOCENT GEORGIA, PUTIN MONSTER, COLD WAR, COLD WAR, COLD WAR, RUSSIAN IMPERIALISM, USSR, COLD WAR, COLD WAR - oldest trick in the book. Iraq war was like just few days ago!

I agree that Putin will do all he can to anger the US now.  He knows we see him and his country as a threat to world peace, and President Bush was 100% correct in his assessment of Putin and Russia, again. (as he was with the Axis of Evil)

Please take no notice of Sky news or Fox news in the US they are biased in all their reporting of this event. Watch an independent station like Euronews you get a much better overall unbiased view on events. As for this missile issue have the US learnt nothing from the Cuban crisis in the 60's !! :)

I hope that US has now no enough power to continue this crazy policy.

Also I do not think that its an friendly move to create enemies around our house. After watching Syriana movie made in USA I understand what's the main aim of USA and its allies. It's all about oil and other energy sources. The friends of US in Ukraine do not allow Russian speaking people (20 millio) speak their native language. Previosly they could use both: Ukranian and/or Russian. We can see the progress. They must learn Ukrainian instead. I think these facts as others are not covered in US or European media.

These rulers are not democrats, but mentally ill people.
