Reports from Eindhoven confirm that PSV Eindhoven have successfully signed Georginio Wijnaldum from Feyenoord Rotterdam. The 20-year-old’s transfer hung in the air for some time but both sides have now reached an agreement on the transfer of the midfielder.
The 20-year-old comes from De Stadionclub’s youth academy and started his professional career in the 2007/08 season with his parent club. The attacking midfielder played well over 100 matches and scored 23 goals in his four-season stay at De Kuip Stadion.
The promising youngster’s performances in the recently concluded season were exceptional. His good performances did not go unnoticed as Arsenal FC, Fulham FC, Liverpool FC and PSV all remained heavily linked with the young midfielder. However, the Dutch
U-21 International preferred to pursue his career at Philips Stadion.
Martin van Geel, the Rotterdam giants’ technical director, revealed that his side wanted to prolong his stay in Rotterdam, but the midfielder desired to take the next step in his career by making a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281.
“We made every effort to retain him for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258, but ultimately we failed. We see Georginio leave De Kuip Stadion with a heavy heart. We recently offered him a contract extension. However, if a player decides to move away from his current club for further
development to his career, then as a club you should seriously consider it”, Van Geel was quoted as saying to the media.
The Stadiumclub’s technical director then went on to reveal that there were several foreign clubs interested in the midfielder, but the 20-year-old wanted to pursue his career in Dutch top tier.
“There were a lot of foreign clubs interested in him, but as the player himself indicated that he wanted to stay in Netherlands. Given the fact that his contract expires next year, we finally concluded an agreement with PSV”, Van Geel concluded.
