Zoltan Gera made his return for West Brom as the Baggies beat FC Copenhagen in a 3-0 pre-season friendly in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884.
The Hungarian midfielder had ruptured his knee ligaments in a Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur last season and had been missing from the team ever since. The player missed almost half of the 2011/2012 season and this game marked his comeback.
West Brom took the lead in the 15th minute courtesy of a Steen Reid strike. Later on they extended their lead through two late goals and rounded off the game in an impressive 3-0 win.
Striker Shane Long scored the second goal of the game through an 89th minute penalty and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabriel-Tamas-c14343 concluded the scoring through a stoppage time goal to wrap the game up.
The game against Copenhagen was West Brom’s last of their pre-season Scandinavian tour. Gera’s return to the side was perhaps the more pleasant aspect of the game. The Hungarian midfielder put up a solid performance in the centre and impressed manager Steve
Clarke.
Clarke was excited by what he saw and is looking forward to working with the Hungarian.
“I am absolutely delighted for Zoltan,” said Clarke.
“He’s a fantastic lad, has worked ever so hard and a lot of credit needs to go back to him. He’s the wrong side of 30 but has the drive and ambition to be on the pitch and credit to those on the medical side who helped him get back.”
“Zoltan is fresh, hungry and he showed a lot of good touches.”
Baggies’ third choice keeper Luke Daniels also impressed in the game by keeping a clean sheet and displaying a commanding presence at the back. Clarke is keen on playing with three goalkeepers next season.
First choice goalkeeper for the Baggies, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has had a very impressive season long loan-spell at the Hawthorns and was signed on a permanent deal earlier this month. Clarke
is happy with all the options he has at his disposal and is keen on adding new faces to the squad.
West Brom signed Argentinian midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-Club-c40301 de Avellaneda after the player arrived at the club’s training facilities on trial. The move will be finalized once the player gets international clearance.
