Geraint Thomas confirms his future with Team Sky until 2014
Welsh professional cyclist Geraint Thomas has renewed his contract with Team Sky as he will continue cycling with them till 2014.
There were rumours of Thomas leaving the Team Sky before 2012 London Olympics as his performance at this year’s Tour de France has caught every ones attention and was receiving offers. He wore the young rider’s jersey from stage 1 to 7 and won the combative
award for stage 12.
David Millar made an offer to Thomas for joining Garmin-Carvelo right after the stage 2 time trials and team's boss, Jonathan Vaughters, appreciated his performance last year.
Other teams amongst, Garmin-Carvelo, were also fascinated by his performance as he mentioned, “There have definitely been a few teams interested; it’s great for your confidence when there’s a few teams that really want you to join them. To have that respect
amongst the teams is great and gives you a little buzz when you go out there racing.”
Team Sky however, has retained the cyclist by extending his contract and aims for a gold medal in upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
The 25-year-old is happy how Team Sky vested belief in him. Thomas is certain that future for Team Sky is bright and he is delighted to be a part of the team for three more years as he renewed his contract.
Brailsford who is the director of British cycling is pleased after Thomas signed with Team Sky as he mentioned, “We are delighted that Geraint has re-signed for another three years with Team Sky.”
Team Sky is relieved after signing the talented young cyclist, who is having a good tour so far and is now with the team till 2014. Along with wearing the young rider’s jersey for the first week, Geraint Thomas was at 6th place in stage 1, 3rd place
in stage 2 and 5th in the stage 5 of this year’s Tour de France.
There are rumors that Geraint Thomas might lose next year’s Tour de France as he is eyeing towards winning at the 2012 London Olympics. When asked about next year’s Tour de France he was uncertain as he showed his interest towards winning at the Olympics
and does not want to risk his chances.
