Gerald Green rewrites his NBA career; Gets one year deal from New Jersey Nets
During the All-Star weekend, Gerald Green not only won in MVP in D-League game, but also landed himself a way to get back into NBA and nearly a month down the line, the 6 ft 8 forward had certainly make the opportunity count.
Green has shaken the world of NBA with his jaw dropping dunks and has become the biggest story surrounding New Jersey Nets. He signed his first 10 day contract on February 27th with Nets and in 18.6 minutes per game, he tallied 5.6 points and 2 boards, paving the way for second 10 day contract.
He was on song in these 10 days, scoring 26 against the Houston Rockets on March 10th; 11 against Milwaukee Bucks and then on March 14th , he again erupted with 26 points in the game against Toronto Raptors.
His spectacular performances have forced the franchise to sign him for the remainder of the season and for Green it was a dream coming true;
"I feel like rookie again, I really do, this is almost like a dream come true, because I never thought I’d be in this situation, right here at this time, this moment. I just never thought."
Gerald was selected by the Boston Celtics as the 18th pick of 1st round in the 2005 NBA draft. He came into the league with the reputation of being a scary dunker, but his questionable work ethics and careless attitude started coming in the way soon. After playing for Celtics from 2005 to 2007, he was traded off in a package deal to Minnesota Timberwolves. He got stuck on the bench behind a number of players and eventually had to extend a trade request.
He was then sent off to his home town team, the Houston Rockets in 2008, but left them shortly to play for Dallas Mavericks.
Months later, he was out of the league and after 3 years, he has finally found his path for redemption.
"It was so hard," Green said. "I’ve always had faith in myself. I always knew that I could play basketball; I just didn’t know if I would ever get the chance to play ... I felt like I had had my chance."
