Gerald Wallace happy to be back with the Brooklyn Nets – NBA Update
Gerald Wallace did not wait much and immediately agreed with the Brooklyn Nets as soon as free agency began. His retention and the acquisition of Joe Johnson, forced star point guard Deron Williams to follow suit and he also re-signed
with the Nets.
Wallace agreed to a deal worth $40 million for four years and Williams came back on a five year contract worth $98 million. However, these are not the only changes the Nets have made in the offseason as they look to get a strong
start for next season. Along with bringing back Wallace and Williams, Nets have also brought back big man Brook Lopez and acquired Johnson over from the Atlanta Hawks.
These are the kind of moves which have left Wallace very excited about the future.
"I'm excited to be back with Brooklyn, so we can get things turned around, get the franchise headed in the right direction," Wallace said, "and hopefully push for a championship."
Wallace added that he decided to return back to the Nets to give Williams the confidence to re-sign and not go over to the Dallas Mavericks.
"My thing was to sign, and give him that confidence that I'd be there with him.” Wallace said, But the main focus was having Deron,"
Another major change that has taken place with the Brooklyn franchise is the latest signing of Jerry Stackhouse on a veteran’s minimum contract and in addition to that, Mirza Teletovic, the Bosnian forward, has also been roped
in as a key recruit for next season. The club is also close in retaining power forward Kris Humphries.
The Nets are hoping to make a big impact come the start of the next season and get out of the slump they have been stuck in for the past few years. Since making it into the NBA Finals twice at the start of last decade, the franchise
has been struggling to make an impact and has been unable to make it to the post season in any of the past five years. That is something Wallace hopes the newly found Brooklyn team will change during next season.
“I feel confident with the team that we have now, going into training camp. And, hopefully, (if) everybody stays healthy, we can make a push for the postseason."
