Gerard Granollers ousts Enrico Burzi in first round – Todi Challenger 2011
With the lower ranked players making their way at the 2011 Internazionali di Tennis dell'Umbria, Enrico Burzi fell short of making a comfortable position in the second round. Playing his 1st rounder against Gerard Granollers,
Spaniard, on Monday, 12th September, Burzi lost the two hours and seven minutes battle on the clay court in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5 and washed out from the Todi Challenger.
Formerly, the two have never played each other. Aged 22, Granollers started off positive in the match that led to his crucial win. Kicking off his career in 2007 as a clay court player, the Spaniard maintained his country reputation
as he recorded a 41-26 win loss rating last year and 39-21 this season.  Granollers has strong hard court repute as well. Recording 15-3 win loss altogether, he totals 54- 24 success rate overall.
On the other hand, the 30-year-old Italian had his best time when Granollers started his career, in 2007. Losing his 1st rounder, Burzi added another loss to his records and increased the number to 6 regarding the last
10 matches. Although the Italian has played uncountable fixtures, he could not utilize his experience and lost.
Comparatively, both players played neck-to- neck in the match. Breaking each other more that once and winning crucial points made the tie worth the watch. With a handful of spectators the two rivals started off with the 1st round
showdown at afternoon.
 Firing up the match, Granollers served the opener and dropped short as he was broken early by the 30-year-old. Serving next, Burzi extended his lead to 2-0 before the Spaniard rolled down his part of the scoreboard, 1-2. Levelling
up the scores in no time, the 22-year-old slammed a breakpoint and stood to play the Italian once again.
Returning with equal amplitude both equalled up at 3-3 and then on 4-4 before the 22-year-old made his move. Serving for game 9, the Spaniard took the lead 5-4 and sat down for the kill. With a startling forehand winner, Granollers
took out the first set with a breakpoint win in the final game, game 10, winning 6-4.
Initiating with the decider set, Granollers has an early break snatching the advantage point from the Italian. With scores at 2-3 to the Italian, Burzi levelled up the scores breaking the Spaniard. The next two games also ended
with breakpoints win for the two, 4-4. 
With scores now up to 5-5 after game 10, Granollers once again went magnificent, winning a breakpoint at a crucial time, game 11, and smothered game 12 to win the set 7-5 and the match, 6-4, 7-5, to take a spot  in the 2nd round
of the Todi challenger.
Chairing the 2nd round, Granollers will play the winner of the match between Fillippo Volandri and Luca Vanni.
