Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier is aiming to convince http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international Ashley Young to stay at the club.
The winger has become a much-wanted player owing to his impressive performances and has been linked to joining both of the Manchester clubs, along with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
Villa are known for being a feeder club, as both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706 were off-loaded to Manchester City for a total of 36 million pounds. However, those deals were finalised when Houllier was not in charge and the manager believes that both of
them would have found it hard to leave such a prestigious club.
That seems highly unlikely as both the players have seen their wages being increased considerably and are set to play in their first UEFA Champions League tournament in the 2011-12 season. Both of them have become an integral part of Manchester City’s future
and have displayed some fine performances across all competitions.
The manager added that both the players were starters for Villa but now have to wait for their names to be announced on the starting sheet at City owing to the competition.
“If sometimes, if you ask some players would they like to be one year younger, I think they would take it and consider things differently. Money doesn't buy you a regular place in the team and what players have to do is to think about it,” explained the
Villa boss.
“You want to play. A real player has got the desire for winning and also a love for the game and wants to play,” added the former Liverpool manager.
Aston Villa have stabilised themselves in recent weeks after a disastrous start to the on-going 2010-11 season in which they were seen fighting to stay out of the relegation zone.
However, they still are 15th in the Premier League, as opposed to their regular top 7 finishes in recent years. They were held to a 1-1 draw against new comers Blackpool, who ended their 5-match losing streak.
Villa have really improved their squad in the January 2011 transfer window, following the signing of star striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 and midfielder Jean Makoun. At that time, Villa were in the relegation zone but are currently 5 points ahead of the bottom-placed
team.
