Gerard Houllier to chase http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Larsson-c32733 in summer transfer window
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier is set to chase Sebastian Larsson in the 2011 summer transfer window after Aston Villa failed to sign him in the winter.
Villa have been quite active in the January transfer window until now as they have already signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 from Sunderland for around 24 million pounds. Bent’s move to Villa has been the subject of a huge controversy as reports suggest that Villa have
signed the Englishman without the consent of the Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce.
Villa have been in talks with Birmingham City in order to negotiate the sale of Sebastian Larsson but the deal has fell through now due to financial disagreements regarding the player’s evaluation in January 2011.
Houllier will now have to wait until the summer to renegotiate with Larsson’s representatives as Villa look to strengthen their midfield department. Houllier only recently joined Aston Villa in the 2010-11 Premier League season after Martin O’Neill left
in the summer of 2010 following several disagreements with the club’s owner, Randy Lerner.
Aston Villa’s manager told the press, “I knew Larsson's contract was up at the end of June, so obviously I was interested because he's a good footballer, good passer. He can play different positions. I think he even played right-back at Arsenal. I think
he would have been good for us. He's staying at Birmingham for now. But in June the door will still be open. I thought it (any deal) would happen in June anyway. Remember, Birmingham have qualified for the Carling Cup final.”
Houllier also confirmed in his interview that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stephen-Ireland-c34149 will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window as Villa required his services in the midfield area.
Villa signed Ireland in the summer of 2010 from Manchester City after they parted ways with their star midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706. Ireland is currently out of action for the English league side due to a knee injury and the Englishman might require a surgery
to address the issue.
