Gerard Houllier wants Michael Owen at Villa Park

The new boss at Villa Park’ Gerard Houllier is set to make a few changes at the club after signing a three-year contract. In terms of signings, Houillier has already got he’s eye on former England striker Michael Owen as a target for the January transfer window.
Houllier was present to watch Owen play in Jamie Carragher's testimonial game at Anfield last Saturday and was impressed by his form and fitness according to The News of the World.
Who also suggest Owen will be keen to reunite with the manager with whom he claimed European Player of the Year in 2001 at Liverpool.
Owen’s current contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season, but Houllier hopes he can secure a deal before then by making a loan bid or paying United a nominal fee.

The deal would also come under the sort of budget which will appeal to owner Randy Lerner whose decision to tighten the purse-strings led to the resignation of Martin O'Neill.
