Gerard Lopez: Red Bull in way of Renault and top stair of podium finish – Formula 1 news
Renault team owner Gerard Lopez has stated that the first goal of the Renault team has been achieved but Red Bull team is in the way of the second goal of the team.
Lopez stated that in one or two races of the 2011 season, Renault will get the better of the Red Bull team to finish on the top stair of the podium.
Renault stepped in the 2011 season with a new innovative forward exhaust system, which was later copied by one or two teams. So far, Renault’s exhaust has shown some good progress as both Renault drivers have once been on the last step of the podium in the
opening two races of the 2011 season.
However, Lopez commented that finishing on the podium was the first part of the plan.
“The plan this year includes two stages: the first was to try to get consistently on the podium, while the second is to get at least one win,” added Lopez who thinks that Red Bull team is the hurdle in their way.
Lopez stated that in Monaco or the Hungaroring Grands Prix, Renault will have a good advantage over the Red Bull team and will try every inch to win them.
Renault drivers Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld have done a good job in the opening two races of the season and despite their consistency, they have shown some good speed behind Red Bull and McLaren team. Renault have done remarkably well to beat the Ferrari
team comprehensively in the opening two races.
Lopez also commented on the return of Robert Kubica and told that Kubica must think of his recovery and nothing else.
“We are extremely happy with Heidfeld: his character is very different from Kubica's, but he has set inside the team very well,” Lopez commented about Heidfeld who has taken over the driving seat of injured Kubica.
Renault are currently fourth in the constructors’ table with 30 points and have two podium finishes against their name. They will move to the Chinese Grand Prix with their noses in front.
