Gerard Lopez believes Kimi Raikkonen will stay at Lotus – Formula 1 news
Lotus team owner, Gerard Lopez said that they have provided their driver, Kimi Raikkonen everything in terms of performance and they are hoping to see him in their team even after 2013 despite the departure of their technical director, James Allison.
Allison has recently left the Enstone based team and there have been many rumours that Raikkonen is not pleased with his departure and may join some other team in the next year. Moreover, he has been speculated as a potential replacement of Mark Webber in
Red Bull Racing for 2014.
On the other hand, Lopez has said that the Finn is a fantastic person and is very pleased to make his F1 comeback with them. Besides, he said that they are also very much pleased to have the 2007 world champion in their team. Therefore, he insisted that
the Finn will hopefully stay with them as they have given him everything to attain competitive results.
“Kimi is a fantastic guy, the thing about Kimi is that he is very thankful we brought him back to where he is. And we are very thankful that he has brought the team to where it is now. So it fits nicely,” Lopez said.
“To be honest with you, I am convinced, and I don’t say this lightly, that if Kimi gets what he wants from us in terms of performance and so on, we will see Kimi moving forward with us,” he said.
“He knows that; and he says that. He is not going to get what he gets with us here anywhere else,” he added.
The Finnish driver has been deemed as one of the most competent drivers in the sport. He performed impressively well during the preceding season and remained the most consistent driver in the field. He came third in the last year’s drivers’ championship
with 207 points.
Presently, he is standing at second place in this year’s drivers’ championship with 67 points. Additionally, he is ahead of his main rival, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and behind the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. It will be interesting
to see how he performs at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 12, 2013.
