Gerard Lopez hopeful Renault’s injured driver Robert Kubica will recover soon – Formula 1 news
Lotus-Renault team’s shareholder Gerard Lopez has said that he is hopeful the team’s injured driver Robert Kubica will recover soon.
He also mentioned that he does not think Kubica could join the track during the 2011 Formula 1 season, as he needs more time to be mentally fit for racing in the sport.
Renault’s star Kubica suffered serious injuries in a rally accident back in February 2011. Since that time, he has been in the rehabilitation process and quickly recovering from the injuries that he sustained during the horrific crash.
Lopez commented, “I think it's going well. Obviously it's a tough battle for him but if anybody can come back it's him. Unfortunately it's not Robert's first big accident. We know about his mental strength but we'll have to see how long the physical side
will recover.”
He added, “I think he's going to be okay and hopefully we'll see him in a Formula One car again although I don't think that will happen this season. I'm sure he has regrets at Rallying but that doesn't do anything for you, it's all about focusing on coming
back.”
On the other hand, the Enstone-based outfit issued the report recently in which they mentioned that Nick Heidfeld will have to leave a race seat, whenever Kubica rejoins them.
The team driver, Heidfeld has performed well for Renault in the early stages of the 2011 Formula 1 season. The German seemed to make a lot of struggle for his best finish on the grid from the last few races, but due to lack of his R31 car’s pace he could
not do that.
In the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix, the 34-year-old driver’s car caught a fire after 23 laps and because of that, he had to retire from the race.
His teammate Vitaly Petrov failed to deliver his best performance at the Hungaroring race circuit. After starting his Grand Prix from the 12th place on the grid the Russian came at the same place in the final race classifications.
Let’s see how both of the drivers, Heidfeld and Petrov manage their last eight rounds of the ongoing season following a disappointing race in Hungary.
