Gerard Lopez says Romain Grosjean has long-term future with Lotus – Formula 1 news
Lotus team owner, Gerard Lopez has said that their driver, Romain Grosjean has no pressure on him as he has a long-term future with them.
Grosjean performed quite convincingly in few races during the preceding season. However, he failed to score points with consistency for his team. Furthermore, he faced a lot of criticism over his rough driving style due to which many accidents happened during
the last year.
On the other hand, his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen performed inspiringly well throughout the previous season and score competitive points with admirable consistency for his team. He secured third place finish in the drivers’ championship behind Fernando Alonso
and ahead of his main rival, Lewis Hamilton.
It will be important to mention that Raikkonen’s race seat in Lotus was confirmed for the 2013 Formula 1 season quite early as compared to the Frenchman which gave an impression that the Enstone based squad are more inclined towards the Finnish driver.
Nonetheless, Lopez has clarified that Grosjean has no pressure on him and they are looking forward to develop some long-term relationship with him in the future.
In addition, he said that they have full confidence in their drivers. Besides, he said that they are very much satisfied with the development of their new car and are aiming to come up stronger right from the start of this season.
“Romain's a different guy,” Lopez told Sporting Life. “He knows what he has to do. He doesn't have that pressure, stress as we have essentially told him he's a long-term future with us. So now he can literally take it race by race, practice by practice because
he's got the speed to win races. Overall, we think we've a very good pair of drivers and a good car, so we're quite positive.”
“Right now, I believe we've a car that is at least as good, and probably a little bit better, than the car we had last year,” he added.
The British team could only claim one victory in the last season. But, Lopez has expressed that their target is to win more races in this season for which they are working harder.
