Question:

Gerbera daisy house plant problems!

My boyfriend bought me a gerbera daisy for my new apartment. It had all these pretty red blooms on it. But then I left if outside on my patio for a day and it was really hot and sunny. The soil didn't dry out, but I brought it back in the air conditioning and have been watering it everyday since.

My problem is that all of the blooms have become all sad looking and the heads have flopped over. The foliage still looks fine.

What can I do for my plant? My boyfriend will be sad if I killed the plant he got me in only a week! I'd really like to see some of the pretty red blooms back.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  1. I have had a lot of problems with Gerbera Daisy (especially with the outdoor ones, squirrells love to eat the flowers!). Of course, it does depend on where you are trying to grow them, but try and keep a few thigns in mind:

    a) if the flowers are starting to wilt but the basic plant itself is still looking good, the flowers could be dieing to make room for new buds.

    b) All plants are susceptible to diseases. There are little bugs that are drawn to the plant and perhaps when you put the plant outside, it contracted something.

    c) Are you making sure to keep your plant in a well-lit window. (A south-facing one is best) Those little suckers just LOVE sunlight. Also, maybe the air conditioning is having an adverse effect. I would reccommend that you put the plant in an un-air conditioned room in your house to see if that helps the plant. In the meantime, do not over water, and keep an eye on the foliage...if the whole plant looks like it's taking a downward spiral...take it to a nursery to see if they can give you any tops!
