  1. DUST BATH

Gerbils evolved in dry climates and they love to have a dust bath. Place a high quality sand, such as Charlie Chinchilla Bathing Sand, into a box or bowl, and let your gerbil roll around and flip over. They will thoroughly enjoy themselves and the sand will help to keep their coats healthy by removing excess oils. Remove the bathing sand after each session. You can offer them a bath weekly or daily. They love it!

  2. I cant really say for certain on gerbils but I know chinchillas take sand baths. In a little house, you put the dust on the floor and they roll in it.

Gerbils? I dunno. Might want to look it up on google? I'm sure you'll find a few things right away.

  3. Do NOT wet your gerbil like some posters said.  This can cause them to become sick if they do not dry right away.  Such a ridiculous answer.

Yes, put the sand bath in the bowl and your gerbil might roll around in it.  If he doesn't, give him a little boost by sprinkling some on his back.  That is what I have to do to my gerbils.

Also, you might want to check into it why he has messy hair.  You may be feeding him bad food or he may have a sickness.

    Best of luck to you.

  4. Yes. You can just put the sand in a bowl that's large enough for them to roll around in. Gerbils should never be given water baths. They're native to the desert, and in the desert, they don't bathe in water. They just frolic around in sand to clean themselves. One of my gerbils LOVES her sand baths.

  5. You should get room temp. water and take a washcloth and wipe it down. Never put your gerbil in water because it's body temp could go down and it could die. Hope this helps.

  6. yes a bowl will do fine. you need chinchilla sand or dust from the pet store. don't put a lot in the bowl, they just need a enough to roll around in.
