Question:

Gerbil Bleeding? Gerbil Breathing?

My gerbil was in his cage (not aquarium) and the two other ones from the other cage escaped. One of those two bit his nose on the top and side of a nostril. There's like gross dry blood, but when he cleans it, it bleeds some more. I'm not worried about that, But if it goes in his nose, will it go in his lungs?...or even worse, do gerbils ONLY breathe from there nose? Can they also breathe from there mouth?

  1. The previous answer is right. :]

This is the most common gerbil injury I have seen, personally.

The same thing happened to one of my boys because he got too friendly through the bars during a split cage.

Just take a cloth with warm water and wipe off the blood- he'll probably squirm a lot- and give him time to heal.

If it goes more than a week without healing, call your vet and ask their advice.

    Good luck with the gerb!
