Question:

Gerbil Food and Water Placement?

Ok so i bought one of those tube platform cages for my two gerbils. The food is on a platform on one side (they gotta climb) and the water is on the other (they also gotta climb). Is it ok that the food and water are seperated? Also I only saw one gerbil drinking from the water holder ONCE! Will they figure out that the water dispencer will give them water?

  1. I would recommend buying a tank to keep your gerbils, in because then it is basically escape proof, and they wont kick bedding all over the floor, and it's easier to see through. It is also safer cause they can't fall of stuff. They can also burrow better without kicking bedding. Keep in mind that Gerbils only drink about a teaspoon of water per day.

Why don't you just do the obvious and put the water bottle down lower, and food dish on the lower level.

Do you have a crittertrail cage, because I think I know exactly which cage your describing,  are the paltforms red with blue tubes going down/up, and a purple bottom.

  2. I'd get a tank instead and keep them in there. Gerbils are major chewers and will chew through your plastic cage. Plus, the plastic cages are very hard to clean. It's very frustrating.
