  1. Well, I, personally, wouldn't do that. The sharp edge could cut the gerbil. A food bowl isn't all that expensive. You can get a good ceramic one for like $2-$3 at the pet store. You may even find one at the dollar store that can be used for your gerbils. You don't even need a food bowl. You can just scatter-feed (sprinkle food in their cage, or in the front of their cage so you can monitor how much they eat and if you need to give more food).

  2. dont use old cans, because as mentioned above, they can cut and injure themselves on the sharp edges.

just find a ceramic bowl and that will do, theyre not that expensive. even the ones you use to eat with is enough, if is ceramic.

or go out to any store and they will definitely have a small bowl which are so cheap.

really, they are not hard to find and not that expensive.

  3. I wouldnt it could cut the gerbil and if you have a little container or bowl use that it is safer and easiar then buying one

  4. Yeah, that's a definite no on the old cans.

They will chew at the ragged or sharp edges and cut themselves, or develop some sickness from the old metal.

Like the post above me said, gerbils actually like to eat if you just pour a serving or two of the seed mix right onto the floor of their cage- away from the bathroom corner, of course.

    A food bowl isn't necessary. :]
