Gerbil getting fat..... constipated?

So my little sister has a gerbil that is 2-3 yrs old. I picked it up and realized it was really fat and the fat part was very hard. Her a**s was clogged up. And her 'special parts' were sticking out and looked funky. My sister was really exited because she thought the gerbil was pregnant (... but wait, there both girls.... strange) We gave it no thought. But then today I was helping her clean the cage and, yeah, here I am.

Older gerbils (especially females) are prone to tumors in the abdominal area and ovarian cysts. Uterine infections are also possible. I recommend you take the gerbil to a vet as soon as possible.

The gerbil definitely needs to see a vet.

3 years is getting on old for a gerbil, and the chances are high it is a tumor. Check the scent gland- the little belly slit- to see if there is a growth noticeable there.

For the time being, let her run in the bathtub and see if she poops. Ideally, she should leave about 15 droppings after 10 minutes. More if she has never been in the tub. If she doesn't go, or it isn't very much, it could be a blockage.

But regardless, a vet visit in needed ASAP.
