Question:

Gerbil the vibrates?

I have a gerbil and ever since we got him this is what he's doing.

When he first wakes up he starts vibrating none stop. He's not cold for sure and he's not scared. He's ears are up when he vibrates. Any ideas of what this means?

  1. I suspect your gerbil's kidneys are failing or are really bad. A blood test is the only way to know for sure. I bet his diet has something to do with it.

  2. He is probably thumping but if he is shivering go back to the pet shop with him and find a healthier one shivering could be seizure like behavior

If he thumping he is telling you this is my turf and weres the girls

  3. Well, he is probrably scared of you. That happenes alot with my gerbils.

  4. Are you sure he's not thumping his foot?

If he is, he's trying to talk to another gerbil (you REALLY SHOULDN'T put him in a cage alone, gerbils are pack animals).

If he is vibrating that means he wants a female in the cage (you know why).

If your still worried you should contact the vet!

    Hope I helped!

  5. Well if he is on is own than he could be bored and just trying to keep himself happy by doing something,

Gerbils should be keep in groups of

    2 to 3 female or 2 to 8 male

Don't keep same s*x together unless you what to breed and don't breed unless you have spend days finding everything they is on breeding and you have homes line up.

He is one his own get him a friend, first find out about the split cage, than check his s*x and go find a same s*x friend for him/her.

This website will help with all three things

If you get him a friend and it doesn't stop than he a gerbil that going to live a full vibrating life

2 gerbil live long that one and or cleaner in most case.

  6. Is he just shaking as if he was shivering or is he thumping the floor of the cage in pattern? Mine do a little thumping dance to each other all the times. It's quite cute, but at first it was really concerning.

  7. Is he MasturbatinG?

  8. he's probably stressed about something... try and make it calm by holding it, petting it, making it feel safe, etc.
