Gerbil vs Rat- Can someone help me?

Question

I can't decide what I would like to get. I do like both animals, so thats not the problem. I would like to get two of what ever I decide to get. I have a limited amount of space and I'm worried I won't be able to give two rats the room they need. I have a small budget, so will gerbils or rats be cheaper to take care over time? I also only have about one hour a day to completely devote to pets. Is this too little for either one?

DO NOT PUT A GERBIL IN A CAGE ALL BY ITSELF. THEY SOMETIMES DIE OF BOREDOM LITRELY. PUTING TWO MALES ARE FINE AND SOMETIMES BETTER THAN TWO FEMALES (NOT TRYING TO BE SEXIST ITS JUST THE TRUTH).IF YOU TRAIN YOUR GERBIL THEY WILL BE BETTER THAN RATS. I WOULD KNOW I OWN A RODENT SHOP.
