  1. aww thats sad but it happens alot so dont let it get to ya.... the little ones are called the runt.... theres only one thing ya can do.... bury them or let the mama eat them.. i know its sick and sad. the big one, well you really cant do anything about it except for take it to the vet or leave it alone and hope it will get stronger :) i wouldnt worry about it too much.. i hope this helped and if you have another question just e-mail me at  lulu_scott@yahoo.com

  2. It sounds like the two that have died were the runts of the litter. Sometimes the mother cannot produce enough milk so ignores the weaker pups to concentrate on the stronger ones. If the mother is not feeding the rest of them then you can intervene.

Go to your local pet shop and buy some kitten replacement milk. Using a feeding syringe, feed the remaining pups once every 2-3 hours with the milk at body temperature. Best way to test this is to drop a bit on your wrist, if you cannot feel it then it's at the correct temperature.

Bury the ones that have died and if the remaining pups don't get any better than take them to the vet as they may have caught some sort of infection.

An infection common with Gerbil pups is Respiratory Infection. This is caused by Pine/Cedar wood shavings. If you are using this as bedding than remove it now and replace it with carefresh or Aspen bedding. If you cannot get this then the next best thing is simply shredded tissue paper.

Good luck and if you need any more advice do not hesitate to email me.

  3. bury the ones that passed away and bring the other to the vet.

  4. take him to the vet pronto!   he could have some disease that you could prevent from happning!  good luck. tell me how evrything works out..  i hope i was of some help

  5. It sounds like maybe mom isn't making enough milk? They're getting close to the age where they start eating solid food.  Hopefully with the passing of the weaker 2, mom can make enough for the one.

It's really hard to bottle feed baby gerbils.  You'd need to ask your vet for a syringe the right size, and what best to use.  I  believe it's goat's milk, but I don't remember.

Is mom getting enough food/protein and water?

  6. separate the weak gerbil from the others it could be contagious. also clean everything in the tank thoroughly. call a vet to see what can be done for the little guy.  hope everything goes well.
