I just got a gerbil about a 2 weeks ago and hes very young then today I got a new one whos younger because they like to live in pairs, my first gerbil however keeps chasing the other one into a corner, I read this was playing but the woodchips fly everywhere and it seems kind of intense im not sure, they dont bite eachother though... idk?

  1. ur supposed to introduce them by split cage method..im surprised theyre not fightin but u never kno they can soon

i would either sperate them and do split cage method to make sure they will be ok

    or

keep a very close eye on them to make sure htey dont fight!!

  2. Try going to TwinSqueaks.com and using their guide to the split cage method.

For now, separate them until you can correctly introduce them.

No matter how young, you cannot just drop a new gerbil in with an old one. The old one, no matter how young, feels everything in that cage is HIS, and the young one is trying to take over.

Yes, they should be kept in pairs, but you should have come across how to introduce them in your reading- it isn't just a suggestion. :]

  3. gerbils can be very aggressive and territorial, they generally do best alone. I would separate them and let them slowly get used to each other if you really want to keep them together, but your best bet is to just house the separately for good.
