a good sand bath with chinchilla sand is the best put in a pot and put it in the cage for a few hour, and they clean themselves!

yes you can wash them, but not with water.  Instead use sand.  It is fun for them and it cleans them in return.  You can have a bowl of sand in their tank constantly if you like.  They do clean themselves and each other so its not hugely needed but they like it and it makes them look nice so if you have time then go get some sand.

You can wash them, but don't! If you wash them, they get chilled and might die or have a cold that turns into a serious problem. Trust me, do not was them.

They wash themselves! They do not need any help at all. It would be a bad idea getting gerbils wet, as they will be a lot more in danger of catching a cold.

Gerbils are very clean animals and will groom themselves constantly and extensively. Please do not mess with their natural grooming programme
