The Belgian was sacked by the Moroccan national team a few days back and it now appears that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach is on the verge of returning to management in the coming days
Fired from his position as the manager of Moroccan national team, former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international, Eric Gerets has been linked with a swift return to management. Rumours have linked Gerets to a managerial position at Qatari side, Lekhwiya SC.
The Doha-based club is currently managed by former Marseille man and Algerian international, Djamel Belmadi. Despite guiding the Red Knights to two Qatar Stars League titles in 2011 and 2012, it appears that the club’s owners feel that the 36-year-old is
still far from the man they want. The owners want Lekhwiya to become a major force in the Qatari league and feel that the club’s ambitions are bigger than its current manager.
The Qatari league has just started and after two games, the position of the current manager is under threat by the rumours linking with Gerets. The former Marseille manager has never managed a team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Rayyan-c38354 to
a league title in the 2009/2010 season.
Eric Gerets simply failed to tame the Lions of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morocco-c2961 made a poor start to the qualifiers of the same
tournament, thus resulting in the manager’s sacking.
However, it appears that Lekhwiya president, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, who also happens to be the owner of Paris Saint-Germain, is keen on having Gerets aboard.
Despite not being able to win a single trophy during his time at Marseille, Gerets is held in high regard due to his great understanding of the game. A few people feel that despite a disappointing spell with Morocco, Gerets is a good club manager.
During his time as the manager of Eredivisie giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven, the Belgian won the league and Dutch Super Cup twice. Furthermore, having an experience of managing a Middle Eastern club would be helpful in helping the 58-year-old take the aforementioned
Qatari club to a new level.
