Gergo Kis captures Men’s 200m IM gold medal - 2011 Hungarian Long Course Nationals
Gergo Kis captured the gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on the fourth day of the 2011 Hungarian Long Course Nationals.
The 23-year-old Kis comfortably pocketed the title of the event by overwhelming his fellow swimmers. He was almost one second away from his closest competitor, Gergely Gyurta of A Jovo SC Veolia and touched the wall for the golden crown by posting a time
of 2 minutes and 02.46 seconds.
Kis was followed by Gyurta, who followed him on the podium for the silver medal, by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 03.65 seconds. They were followed by Peter Nagy of Szfvari Delfin SE, who stayed only 0.31 seconds behind Gyurta and stepped on the podium
for the bronze medal, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 03.96 seconds.
The gold medallist was almost seven seconds behind the Hungarian mark of 1 minute and 55.18 seconds, made by Laszlo Cseh in 2009. Kis is the gold medallist of 800m freestyle at the 2008 European Long Course Championships and he also captured the bronze of
400m freestyle in the 2010 European Championships.
Gyurta’s team-member, Zsombor Szana completed his swim in the fourth fastest place, by touching the wall in a time of 2 minutes and 04.13 seconds. He was followed by his team-mate, Akos Molnar, who touched the wall for fifth position, by posting a time of
2 minutes and 06.60 seconds.
Mark Meszaros stood as the sixth position holder after finishing his swim in a fabulous time of 2 minutes and 08.60 seconds. He was 0.18 seconds faster than Bence Bagameri, who touched the wall in 2 minutes and 08.78 seconds for the seventh position. Marcell
Csutortoki was the last swimmer to finish his swim, as he concluded his swim in the eight place with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.75 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of swimming events, while Kis expressed his desire of qualifying in the Hungarian team for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
