Gergo Kis seizes Men’s 800m freestyle gold: Day five – European LC Championships
Gergo Kis of Hungary seized gold medal of the Men’s 800m freestyle on day five of the continued European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Friday, May 25.
Kis displayed his remarkable efforts and exceeded expectations of his supporters by claiming gold medal of the sixteen-lap freestyle event.
With his astonishing efforts, Kis remained comfortably faster from his closest swimmer and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 7 minutes and 49.46 seconds.
His title-claiming effort remained nearly three seconds ahead of Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri, who followed Kis on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 7 minutes and 52.23 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Sergiy Frolov of Ukraine, who was 0.58 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade as third position holder by submitting a time of 7 minutes and 52.81 seconds.
Fourth position holder was followed by Sebastien Rouault of France, who stayed full body length behind and ended his swim with an effort of 7 minutes and 53.78 seconds.
Rouault was chased by Gabriele Detti of Italy, who was nearly three body lengths away and secured fifth position of the event by posting a time of 7 minutes and 56.16 seconds.
Moments later, the spectators witnessed phenomenal efforts of Norway’s Sara Nordenstam in the Women’s 200m breaststroke playoff.
Nordenstam spoiled the party of her following swimmers and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 26.91 seconds for gold medal of the event.
Her title-claiming effort remained nearly one stroke away from Irina Novikova, who posted a time of 2 minutes and 27.25 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was chased by Sarah Poewe of Germany, who was 0.55 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 27.80 seconds for third position.
Poewe was chased by Joline Hoestman of Sweden, who was 0.07 seconds slower and posted a time of 2 minutes and 27.87 seconds for fourth position.
The session ended after the completion of events while the winners received medals and accolades for their wonderful swims at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
