Gerhard Berger believes single-seater needs reforms – Formula 1 news
Former F1 driver Gerhard Berger believes that presently there are so many junior formulae racing that it has become difficult to point out the outclass drivers while he insisted for reform in the sport.
Berger has just become the president of FIA’s Single Seater Commission and in an interview, he expressed that some essential restructuring is needed for the current conditions of single-seater events. Moreover, he said that according to him there are too
many competitions which have hindered the possibility to identify the star drivers.
“There are too many championships out there and attention between them is split too much. People are complaining that the best drivers are now all spread out. You can't look at the British F3 Championship, for example, and say, 'He is certain to get to F1'.
“These days the best drivers are all over the place: one in F3, one in GP3, one in Formula Renault and one in Formula Abarth. The system no longer does what it is supposed to do, which is to give a highly talented driver a CV he can use to progress to Formula
1,” he added.
Furthermore, he said that he has gone through the whole arrangement himself and asserted that he is trying to make the necessary reforms which are earnestly needed so as to make sure that the best drivers come up to race.
In addition, he said that his main concern is to resolve some of the ongoing issues in the Formula 3 at this point in time. However, he said that he is not taking the attention off from other events and will come to the remaining later.
Besides, he said that the problems are not so serious in Formula 2, GP2 and Formula Renault 3.5 as compared to the Formula 3. Nevertheless, he said that they still need to make some considerable changes in all the formulae racing events so as to create a
better platform where they can assess the right potential and talent in the drivers.
Over and above, it will be interesting to see what alternations he will make in the game to attain the desired the results.
