Gerhard Berger thinks Nico Rosberg is as good as Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Gerhard Berger has said that Nico Rosberg of Mercedes is as good as his new teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton joined the Brackley based team in this season as a replacement of Michael Schumacher who retired at the end of the last year. Since he has achieved quite a lot in his career so far as compared to Rosberg, he is deemed as a better driver in the Silver
Arrows. However, Berger has said that 27-year-old has proven his potential in his career so far and he is equally good as the British driver. Besides, he said that both the drivers have their own strengths.
“That's what they said about (Rosberg alongside Michael) Schumacher,” Berger told to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.
“Rosberg has proved how good he is. If he can also hold Hamilton at bay, it will be another milestone,” he said. “For me, those two (Rosberg and Hamilton) are on the same level. Each has his own strengths.”
“One has the cooler head, the other more emotion, and it's pretty even,” he added.
In addition, he asserted that Mercedes have developed a very competent car in this season with which their drivers can compete really well with their rivals and can secure good positions in this year’s drivers’ championship. But, he expressed that they still
need to find the right chassis in order to attain competitive results with consistency in the forthcoming races.
“It's not surprising because they have the best engine and two great drivers. It was clear that at some point they would start to get the chassis right,” he insisted.
At present, Rosberg is standing at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 14 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
On the other hand, the 2008 world champion is quite ahead of his teammate and is standing at 3rd place in the drivers’ standings with 50 points. Besides, he is ahead of his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and behind Kimi Raikkonen of
Lotus.
It will be thrilling to see how the German and the Briton perform in the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.
