Gerina Piller seeks to repeat LPGA Championship performance in Canada this week
American Gerina Piller, who made a dramatic late comeback in the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012 by posting a 68 in the final round, is ready to stun her fans once again, at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012, this week.
The Manulife LPGA Classic is going to take place from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, with a strong field featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
Piller may not find it easy to inflict a defeat on her rivals, but she has learned to hold her nerve on the course, thanks to the stunning performance at the major event.
Analysts said that the American star showed resilience, especially in the final moments of the four-day tournament. They said that most of the big names failed to prove their worth, but lesser-known players, like Piller, dominated the leaderboard.
Analysts pointed out that the results at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic may take a surprising turn, just like they did at the LPGA Championship.
However, they said that top-ranked contenders will try to put up a tough fight to atone for the lapses they made last week.
The rising prodigy was standing tied for the 15th position at the end of the third round, at Locust Hill Country Club, but rebounded in full force on the concluding day and shot a decisive 68 to jump to tie-6.
Fazed by the stellar performance, Piller said, at the end of the major tournament, that she never thought of displaying such a nice game in the final moments. She said that she had lost all hopes, but thanks to her strong nerve, she made a dramatic comeback.
Piller went on to say that the upcoming events are going to be considerably tougher, but she is trying to learn how to stay strong on the course, especially the rough.
She conceded that the rough at Locust Hill Country Club troubled her, making it difficult for her make calculated putts.
When asked how her performance has helped her gain confidence, the golfing sensation said that she will definitely take the game more seriously and see where she can make further improvements.
She said that her drive is exceptionally good — something that helped her produce a solid score in the final round at the major tournament.
