German Power display at 2010 FIFA World Cup

In a stunning display of world class football three time champions, Germany sounded out a serious warning to all other contenders that they mean business with a 4-0 clinical thrashing of the Australians in Durban

The Germans replicated the performance they gave in the opening match of the last world cup which was hosted by them, when they scored a similar four-nil win.

The remarkable performance was hailed across the European powerhouse’s home country as millions of fans celebrated both at the venue of the match and Germany.
The thumping win was ensured by a fluent performance that lit up the magnificent Moses Mabhida stadium.

The German team that took the field was their youngest World Cup squad for more than two decades, and their energy filled display is set to be noticed by all leading contenders for the glittering gold World cup trophy.

Over in Durban many German fans were enthralled by their team’s special performance "I was really surprised about this young team, I was surprised that (Holger) Badstuber was playing from the beginning. I was also surprised that (Thomas) Muller was playing from the beginning, but that is the future," said Klaus Huegle, a German fan.

"It was a great atmosphere, the game could have been a little bit faster, but I am still satisfied with the match," added a fellow German fan.

The win was set up by a magnificent performance by forwards Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose. Klose netted his 11th World cup goal which was the second by his team, ensuring that the Germans lead 2-0 at halftime lead.

The German coach Joachim Loew's faith in his trusted allies was strengthened further despite a shoddy recent performance from his dependable striker. The third and fourth goals were added by winger Thomas Mueller and substitute Cacau.

The Germans will next take on fellow Europeans, Serbia who were edged out 1-0 by African dark horse Ghana, the match will take place on the 18th of this month.

Meanwhile the festivities were not restricted to Durban alone as a staggering 18,000 soccer fans gathered at a public screening of the match in Munich's Olympic Stadium
A large screen was set up for the huge crowd, and many amongst the spectators wore the black, red and gold German colours.

"It was super, great. What else can you say, 4-0," said one fan as she left the stadium.

"It was amazing, it was so cool. It was so fantastic. If they continue to play like this then they'll be world champions," another said.

Over in the Bavarian city heavy rain did little to stop the passionate football fans from gathering in the streets, cheering and singing, some of the fans even sprayed champagne in celebration.

The same spirit was exhibited in the streets of Cologne city, with the city centre being blocked by hundreds of cars beeping their horns in delight at their country’s triumph over the socceroos.

The fans celebrating had special praise for team captain Philipp Lahm, Mesut Ozil and Mueller who laid the foundation for victory. The trio was hailed as superstars with adoring fans chanting slogans in their favour as the young German team took to the wings to outflank the usually obdurate Australian defence.

On the other hand their was disappointment in the Australian camp, and many of the fans that are staying at the Kingsmead cricket ground in Durban conceded that their team was not good enough to throw a challenge at the rampaging Germans.

However they are yet to lose hope, and still have confidence in their team, "The way the Germans passed the ball around was amazing, and if you look at the world rankings it is easy to see why they are one of the best teams in the world," claimed on passionate socceroos fan, while another one jumped in claiming "They will be in the semi-finals definitely."
