Germaine Greer: icon or idiot?

Germaine is, undoubtedly, one of the most colourful characters of our time. She has been an academic, revolutionary, naked model, reality TV personality and public intellectual. Controversy follows her everywhere she goes. What do you think of her?

She has made some good points, but a lot of bizarre ones as well.

She courts controversy and plays the game to keep herself popular.

She's simply a clever, colorful woman who wanted a career in the media and she chose gender issues as her point of reference .... much in the same way as Madonna chose pop music.

Not much difference between the two women I'd say - strong, clever, intuitive, ambitious.

She's a person who is paid to be controversial, and does her job very well.

She has used her brain to get herself from a suburban life she hated to a nice little earner in a place she loves.

She's also highly educated, literate and witty.

It's not necessary to agree with every word someone utters to feel admiration for their body of work across a lifetime, and that's how I feel about Dr Greer.

She has written ceaselessly about issues of interest to me, including Elizabethan literature, women's issues and women's lives with a particular focus on the ageing process.

She's also written about a lot of stuff I don't find interesting, but regardless of my view, or your view, she keeps on making news, and doing just exactly what she wants with her life.

Good for her.

She's a good example of a feminist who talks utter nonsense yet gets listened to by many. One day people will look back and see her for what she really is.
